Using electronic dog training collars is one of the most efficient ways of
eliminating the hussle that comes with training. These collars allow dog owners
to train their dogs at home, and often save them money and time by not requiring
them to take their dogs to training classes anymore.
Types
Based on the type of correction stimulus, electric dog training collars can be
categorized into three different types. These are electric collars, sonic
collars, and citronella spray collars.
Electric Collars
The electric collars detect the vibrations caused by dogs' barking and deliver a
mild electrical shock, similar to the static shock that we feel when we handle
fabrics. There are a few methods to this as some products require the owner to
make the correction with the push of a button.
The main advantage of the electronic collar is that it teaches a dog that
barking is not allowed in certain situations, such as late at night or when
visitors arrive. The set up and training procedures are simple and the collar is
user friendly. The disadvantage that is attributed by some to this collar is the
effects of static used on the dog.
Sound Based Collars
Other type of electronic collars use sound instead. These sonic collars emit a
high pitched sound that only dogs can detect and that makes them stop barking.
These collars are very innovative and they are prefered by those who think that
the static delivering ones are cruel.
Spray Based Collars
This type of collar offers yet another approach. You'll find that these collars
contain a canister which spouts out the citronella spray upon sensing the
unwanted behavior of the dog. This is considered by some the best type of
electronic collar available, although it requires some extra work, such as
constantly refilling the spray canisters to keep the collar working, and taking
the canister off at night so the dog can rest.
