Some cat owners decide to install a cat door in their homes. This type of
door for one's feline friend is also called a cat flap. The purpose of a cat
door is to let a cat inside and outside whenever it wants. These pet openings
have come along way since they were initially tried and tested. They are framed
with resistant plastic or wood. The doors will resist wear and tear caused by
the animal using them. Durability and sturdiness are important when considering
getting a cat door.
Size And Frame
Always take the breed and size of your cat in consideration when buying a cat
flap. Some cats are larger than most while others seem quite finely boned that
they cannot actually push open a heavy cat door. The frame that holds the door
should be resistant to water, since it will be exposed to rain and even snow.
The material of the door can be more flexible, with some even being made in
glass. Obviously, the size and material of the door should be comfortable to the
cat's size and strength.
Electronic Or Magnetic
These types of cat doors work in coordination with the cat itself. Some of these
doors can detect the presence of the cat through the collar it's wearing. This
distinction gives the cat the advantage of being the only cat able to go in and
out of the cat door. It can save the cat's life if it's being chased by dogs or
children. However, if the collar breaks down, the cat is stuck outside (or
inside) until the owner opens the door for it. Other types of cat doors detect
the animal and not the collar that it's wearing. There are limitations to the
size of the animal that the sensor may detect.
A cat door is a very practical idea. This will let the cat come and go by itself. You can even get a cat flap that will open only for your cat.
