  • The Right Diet To Feed Your Siberian Husky

Part of your Siberian Husky’s care will be to find the best diet for your dog. There are many good brands of dog food on the market that will give your pet a well rounded balance of vitamins and nutrients. It is generally better to select a high-quality brand of food, since these will offer the necessary nutrients while keeping your dog’s weight in check. It is best to care for your Siberian Husky by feeding him on a regular schedule with measured amounts of food each time. Many of these dogs will eat all food set before them, which means that free feeding your husky may lead to obesity problems. If you are in doubt over the amount of food to feed your dog, you can check with your vet or breeder for advice on measuring.

    Selecting A Dog Food

Most dogs will do very well on a strict diet of high quality dry dog food, although some owners prefer to use a mix of dry and canned food. Whatever you and your dog prefer will probably work just fine. Part of the care of your Siberian Husky requires you to hunt out the foods that your dog likes best. There is a word of caution on this point, however. Since huskies can have a tendency to be strong-willed, your dog may attempt to train you to the food he wants to eat. If you find that your dog is turning up his nose at dog food because he wants to eat what you are eating, stick with your guns until your pet finally accepts the fact that dog food will be his only menu choice.

    Doggy Treats

Of course, you can supplement that simple diet with the occasional treat. In fact, there are some recipes for homemade doggy delights that your pet is almost sure to lick his chops over! If you are a fan of raw foods, you can try offering your dog carrot pieces as a natural snack on occasion. Some dogs enjoy the crunch of this treat. Good care of your Siberian Husky will include finding healthy treats that you can offer to your dog during training sessions or whenever you want to give him a special snack.

Things You Should Never Feed Your Dog

Along with the right menu choices that you will make in caring for your Siberian Husky, there are also some foods that should never be offered to dogs. Some of these items can be so poisonous to your dog; it can become a life-threatening situation if the product is eaten. These items include chocolate, which contains a chemical that can cause your dog’s heart to race. Onions and garlic can cause liver damage in your dog. Raw eggs are a poor choice for your pet as well, because of the risk of salmonella poisoning. While the risk is small, most pet owners would agree that raw eggs are not worth the risk. Although bones have long been touted as every doggy’s favorite treat, bones can splinter and get caught in your dog’s throat. Responsible care for your Siberian Husky includes making sure that your dog does not come in contact with any of these foods that are dangerous for him.

While good nutrition is important for your Siberian Husky’s care, most dog owners would agree that an occasional treat will do more good for your dog than harm. You can even find some delicacies that you can cook for your Siberian Husky.
