A Siberian Husky pup can be a beautiful pet and a friendly, playful
companion. As with any family pet however, good Siberian Husky
care is paramount to a successful relationship with your dog.
There are many different considerations to think about when you
are preparing yourself for the care of your Siberian Husky. You
need to provide a safe environment for your dog, proper feeding
and grooming routines, and plenty of playtime and love to make
your dog feel like a member of your family. Many of these steps
can be started before you even bring your husky home from the
breeder. The better you prepare yourself for caring for your Siberian
Husky at home, the easier the transition will be once your dog
comes into your house and family.
Providing A Safe Environment
Siberian Huskies are nomadic and energetic by nature. This translates
into a love of running for most of these dogs. If your pet encounters
an unrestrained moment with plenty of open space, his instinct
will be to run – as fast as he can, and as far as he can. For
this reason, it is absolutely essential as part of your Siberian
Husky care to keep your dog safely confined at all times. Do not
ever let your dog out of his fenced yard off lead. The fencing
that surrounds his area should be high, since huskies are known
climbers and adept escape artists. It is also a good idea to bury
the wire of the fence, because Siberian Huskies have also been
known to dig their way out of yards on more than one occasion.
Whenever you take your dog on a walk, keep him on his leash at
all times! This cannot be stressed enough, since a dog running
loose is a danger to himself as well as others.
Feeding And Grooming
Caring for your Siberian Husky’s food needs will consist of feeding
a measured amount of food to your dog once or twice a day. Siberian
Huskies do not tend to be good free eaters, since they will efficiently
clean any amount of food from their bowls in a single sitting.
Free feeding this breed can lead to obesity rather quickly, so
monitor how much food your dog eats with a regular feeding schedule.
Most high-quality dry dog foods will work well for the care of
your Siberian Husky.
Grooming is a fairly low maintenance part of the care of your
Siberian Husky. For the majority of the year a weekly brushing
will suffice. These dogs will do a very good job of keeping themselves
clean and odor-free. During shedding seasons, which occur once
or twice each year, you will probably need to care for your Siberian
Husky with daily brushings and perhaps even a bath. The only supplies
that you will need to keep on hand for grooming needs are a wide-toothed
comb, a bristle brush and a bottle of dog shampoo.
Playtime
Your puppy will come into your home as a bundle of fur and energy,
so playtime will be an important part of your pup’s day. A Siberian
Husky without proper socialization may become bored, and boredom
will lead to destruction, so keep that little guy busy! Have a
few safe toys around the house for your pup to discover, and show
your Siberian Husky you care about him with daily play and cuddle
time. Developing a good relationship with your dog will lead to
a positive next step of care; Siberian
Husky training.
