Types Of Siberian Husky
While all Siberian Huskies are beautiful dogs, it is good to
be aware of the different types of the breed before bringing one
of the friendly creatures into your family. Siberian Huskies have
been bred over the years to perform various functions; some are
best adapted to be racing animals, and some were bred as show
dogs. There is also a wide variety among Siberian Huskies as to
coloring – both of the coat and the eyes. If you are considering
making a Siberian Husky your family pet, it is a good idea to
educate yourself about the different choices that are available
in this breed before making your final selection.
Working Dog Vs. Show Dog
The working dog type of Siberian Husky is considered the standard
of the breed. This dog is lighter boned with a lighter coat than
a show dog. It is also heavier and less fragile than the racing
type of Siberian Husky. This is probably the image that comes
to mind when you think of this particular breed. On the other
hand, the show type of Siberian Husky generally has a broader
chest and shorter legs than its working counterpart. It might
also have a thicker, coarser coat, and resemble a freight dog
in appearance. The racing type of Siberian Husky is bred to compete
in sled races, and is the lightest of the three types. The legs,
back and coat tend to be shorter on this dog than on the other
Siberian Husky types.
Color Variations
The color variations and patterns of the Siberian Husky are diverse
and nearly unlimited. A Siberian husky can range from a pure white
specimen to a black color and nearly every shade in between. There
are also shades of brown that can be found in the patterns of
some Siberian Huskies, although certain brown shades can be harder
to come by. You can even find this breed in a red and white color
palate, ranging anywhere from a deep copper to an orange shade.
The patterns on these dogs can vary greatly as well, but most
Siberian Huskies will have white legs and paws, white facial markings,
a white tip on its tail and a white under belly. The face can
be a mix of colors in a piebald pattern that are sometimes compared
to the pattern on a pinto horse. Many huskies have a beautiful
mask-like appearance on their faces.
Variations Of Eye Color
Siberian Huskies are one of the few breeds that can have a wide
variety of eye colors as well. Some of these dogs have a beautiful
ice-blue shade of eyes, and others will sport the more traditional
brown hue. There are Siberian Huskies that are known as parti-eyed.
This means that the eyes contain a combination of blue and another
color mixed into the iris. Other dogs are bi-eyed, with one blue
eye and one hazel. This is one of the few breeds where bi-eyed
dogs are acceptable in the standard.
There are few creatures that are more beautiful than the Siberian
Husky – just ask any Siberian Husky owner! This dog can make a
wonderful companion and family pet for anyone who takes the time
to understand this breed and work with his dog in training and
play. If you are considering adding a Siberian Husky to your family,
good luck and enjoy your beautiful new dog!
