Siberian Husky Names?

In the future I want to get a siberian husky, and my decision is absolutely set :)
For male names, I have considered;
Copper, Fang, Toby, Cody & Phoenix.
For female names;
Midnight & Luna.
Any more suggestions?

Names are YOUR business. Why are you asking total strangers???

siberian husky names

i'm getting a husky in 2 weeks. her name is marti. is there any names that ryhm with marti. we don't like the name marti. and is there any different behavior in husky's than other dogs. (she will live outside with my border collie mix male.)
she's a female.

I really can't help with a name, it's rather easy to change a dog's name. Depending on her past, it may also be good for her to change her name to something different to start fresh. The name can be whatever suits her personality. As for different behaviors from other dogs, yes, they are not your typical dog. Please make sure that you have a very secure fence in the back yard and it is at least 6 ft. Siberians are known escape artists. They will dig under the fence or jump over (yes, they can still jump over 6 ft). They are very intelligent so you always need to think one step ahead of them. They are very quick at learning obedience, but they will choose what they will do and not do. They also will talk back to you when you tell them a command. Siberians should never be trusted off leash when not confined to the house or your fenced in yard. They will run, fast and far.

They have a high prey drive, so if you have any little animals that are in the yard, expect that she will get a hold of them.

Make sure that you have shade and water available at all times. Also consider getting a kiddie pool to help keep cool in the heat. Whatever you do, do not shave her coat. The coat insulates them from the heat to keep them cool and insulates them in the winter to keep warm.

Lastly, make sure both of the dogs are fixed….

Good Luck, make sure you read up on Siberians on the internet and consider joining some online groups. They will help you immensley with any problems you may have or advice you may need.

how do i get my siberian husky dog trained?

i want him to sit and get potty trained… can somone help me
i want to do it myself but i need a little help… bestawnser gets put up as best awnser

Hahahaha. Having been owned by Siberians for many years, I will tell you it is a laughable question. Anywho….

Sitting is probably the easiest thing to train any dog to do. With your dog on a leash, hold a treat in front of his/her nose. Then make the treat go behind the dogs head slowly. As they are looking up at the treat, push firmly on their butt and tell them sit. Repeat a bajillion times (ok, not really, but with Siberians it always seem that way). If your dog gets frustrated, STOP the training session. It will only be counterproductive if your dog isn't having fun during training.

Potty training can be difficult with Siberians. I've found that even though they catch on that you told them not to pee "right there" you said nothing about not peeing 6 inches from "there". The best thing you can do is keep your dog on a very strict bathroom schedule. And give lots of praise and treats when they do their business outside. Persistance is key. And don't get too mad when they go inside. Siberians do need a lot of attention, and will often take bad attention over no attention. don't let them train you to give that; it won't do anything for strengthening your bond (which while important in ANY dog is very important in Siberians if you ever plan on getting them to do what you want.)

The key to training Siberians is not make them think it is their idea in in the first place. they do not respond well to negative reinforcement, so only use positive reinforcement. And make sure he/she is getting their much needed exercise every day. If they don't you will be pulling your hair out over everything your dog is getting into to "occupy" their mind. I would highly suggest finding a trainer who has experience with Siberians. They will help you get through the teenage phase!

GOOD LUCK! This breed is not for everyone, but for everyone it IS for they would never live without one!

Are there any Siberian Husky breeders out there?

If there are breeders on this yahooanswers, whats the price? Could they be imported to Belize Central America if bought???
Yea to all of you i know i'm pretty much in the wrong climate for these dogs, but i dnt know just a thought maybe the could adapt, i've just been facinated with the breed, and so was just a question i thought i would ask. I guess it won't be possible :( Dog rescues here, its a no way to go, there are practically NONE, NO dog rescues herei n Belize! and plus the breeds of that sort are nowhere to be found here!
anyhow if there is any possible way, please send me a mial. thanks!

Why not look into rescue? You can get a wonderful companion of the breed of your choice from a breed specific rescue organization for a lot less than from a breeder. Plus they are UTD on shots and already S/N, which in the long run saves you even more.

Siberian husky eye color, if parents have blue eyes, will the puppy too?

I have a deposit on a 4 week old Siberian Husky and my girlfriend is very concerned about its eye color, which we do not know yet. Both its parents have blue eyes, does that increase the likelihood that my puppy will have blue eyes too? Also, both its parents are brown and white while my puppy is black and white, is this common?
Just to ease any worries, I have been doing research on the breed for months and will absolutely love the dog regardless. The question is purely inquisitive regarding color possibilities.

Blue eyes are homozygous recessive. So your puppy should have blue eyes. Brown and white would be heterozygous so there were multiple possibilities for the outcome of the puppy's color. Any color would have been normal; within reason of course.

what is the difference between a Siberian husky and an Alaskan malamute?

I am asking this question because I am getting a dog this summer and I wanted a Siberian husky but then I came across the malamute and was wondering the differences and similarities between the two.

Malamute - Larger, heavier, draft horse style dog.
Siberian - Smaller, high strung, endurance race type dog.

Sounds like you have a ton more homework that you need to do before getting a dog. Neither of these dogs do well in homes with inexperienced owners or inactive owners. Read up, meet some excellent breeders and their dogs, always always always rescue or choose RESPONSIBLE breeder, attend Sibe/Malamute events, and enjoy!

which one is easier to care, siberian husky ,collie or samoyed? advice needed.?

im a beginner and want to pet a puppies. i have schools from 6 am to 3 pm. so i have to left my pups alone during that time. but he will be free to go wandering in our yard. its about medium sized yard.
please your advice.

All of these breeds are working breeds so it's hard to answer, since really none of them are ideal for someone who is gone 6-3 during the week. All I can say for SURE is not to get a Siberian Husky. I own one and tried to work at the same time as raise her as a pup, and it was really, really difficult–and I'm NOT a first time puppy owner! My solution was that now I work from home, and spend all day with her, and eventually we are going to get another dog as a playmate, once she is at least 98% reliably trained and well behaved, but they need tons of attention and exercise outside of a yard for sure.

You may be best off with a Collie, but like I said, all three are working breeds and need lots of exercise, meaning, not necessarily space to run around, but regimented exercise with you, that seems like work: running, walking in a diciplined manner, and general training, at least while they are around 0 months to 1 1/2 years old. I'd advise that if you want one of these dogs, to get an older adult, that has gotten past his crazy energy phase. Or, to research a breed that doesn't need as much interaction and exercise. What the books say is right about these breeds, there is no way around their reaction to loneliness and desire for proper exercise. Out of the 3, a Collie might be the best fit, but I'd suggest getting another breed that is more suitable to your schedule for the dog's sake and yours…

please help me guys and thanks

you sound like you need to do much more research on the breed and on dogs in general….go to akc.org and read up on them,, also read up on Keeshond, and norwegian elkhound (smaller nordic breeds) go to some dog shows BEFORE you get a dog and talk with as many exhibitors as possible… get some breeder contacts,, go meet with them,, meet their dogs,, voice all your concerns with a reputable breeder…. be prepared to spend over $600.

I want to get a siberian husky, but is it like most dogs and listen to you and come when told -with training?

I heard it was independent and would not listen to what you do just like ferrets, birds, rabbits.

it's not that they won't come to you, but the fact that they are VERY STUBBORN!!! i used to have a husky i ran off leash, but i also did a lot of running to catch him and calling his name for 10 minutes. my new huskies are never off leash, but from time to time get off the leash. it takes time and patience for them to come back to me, but they will. just make sure you don't scold them when they finally come back to you. and if they have a prey drive then just forget about it if they see a squirrel run across their path. i just realized that you weren't talking about them being off leash or even outside. if they're indoors my huskies listen to me very well. if we are in the confines of the dog park they are 50/50 for listening to me on first command. it takes a few times. no leash outdoors they will come back when finished exploring, although they could get lost in that amount of time.
