Help with Siberian Husky rescued?
Ok so I recently rescued him and the older owner didn't house break him they taught him to go to the bathroom on those dog pads Is it possible for me to house train him he is 1 Ive been told it cant be done if so what do I need to do
Tika that awsome advice
They didnt crate train him so im try to work that out to
Yes, you absolutely can retrain him, but you'll have to start all over as if he is a puppy you just brought home and it will take longer than if he were a new puppy. Your best bet is to look for some books about housebreaking a puppy.
Make sure you do not use punishment when he goes in the house, this is what he has been taught. Make sure you take him outside immediately after he wakes up from every nap and about 10 minutes after he eats and drinks. Have small treats handy and right when he goes outside reward him with tons of praise, affection and a treat. You need to take him out on a leash so you can be right there when he goes because if you do not reward within 1-2 seconds it is completely pointless. When he goes inside remember the opposite of rewarding is to not reward him, not punishing.
It would probably be best to keep him confined to a tiled area like the kitchen using baby gates or a puppy play pen. He is bound to have accidents, but if you use puppy pads you don't be able to retrain him, so get ready to clean up some pee.
Make sure to be consistent and take him out on a leash frequently to pee. Also, separate play time and pee time. When you take him out to pee make sure he knows it is bathroom time and not play time, reward him and promptly take him back inside. Taking him out to play is a different time.
You also may want to try hanging some bells where he can reach next to the door you use to take him out to use the bathroom. Each time you go out for a bathroom break and only a bathroom break ring them as you go out. He should pick up on it in a week or two and start ringing the bells to let you know he needs to pee.
The best tool you have is plenty of reward and praise for going outside and consistency.

I'm sure it can be done it probably will take some time though. Walking and playing with him a lot outside would probably work best. You could try to put a pad outside for a week or so and then take it away.

It's not impossible, but you will have to be way patient. You will need to take the dog out every half-hour to hour. Immediately after coming out of the crate waking up etc, and about a half hour after eating/drinking. Watch him ALL THE TIME. Any accident will be a major setback and you'll basically have to start over. If he has an accident, do not be mad at him, it is not his fault if you are not watching him, he doesn't know better. If you can't watch him, put him in the kennel/crate, make sure it's only big enough for him to turn around, and lay down in Or he'll go potty in it.

Either you can retrain him, (if you have a backyard) let him out every 3 or 4 hours, or have daily walks so he won't pee so much inside.
I have a husky and that's how he was before we took him out for long walks and let him out in the backyard.
Hope it works!!

OF COURSE!
With working in rescue I've decided it's EXTREMELY so much easier to crate train an older Siberian.
Find a good schedule and stick to it!
Good luck and awesome job rescuing!
