siberian huskys would like?
i have an opportunity to get a male 9 month old siberian husky..are they good dogs with kids? etc?
i have 5 cats
How old are the kids? A 9 month old Siberian is going to be boisterous. You will be dealing with a young, high-energy dog, which may knock over toddlers accidentally in its exuberance. If you have older children, there should not be a problem.
Please research the breed carefully before you make this decision; this is not the breed for everyone. You must have a securely fenced yard, and you must understand that this dog cannot be allowed off-lead.
This puppy is entering adolescence, which may make him a greater challenge to train. Siberians are not automatically obedient, and need to see a reason to do what you ask. They will ignore you if that reason isn't compelling, or there is something more interesting out there holding their attention.
Something else to consider: Siberians can be prey driven. If you have any other small animals in your house (gerbils/hamsters, birds, cats, etc.), the Siberian might really want to eat them.
This is a beautiful, friendly breed, but some people cannot handle their energy level, or their quirks. Do as much reading on the breed as you can before you opt to take this dog.

If this is a friend/co-worker/relative looking to find another home for this dog, and you decide the breed is not right for you, encourage the current owner to contact a Siberian Husky rescue group in their area - rescue volunteers can help that owner find a suitable, permanent home for the dog.
Good luck!
ADD: Weeeellllll….if this puppy were younger, I'd say you might be able to teach it to respect the cats (especially if you have cats that won't run away, and will teach the puppy some respect with a good slapping)…but at 9 months old, the puppy is bigger and more intimidating…and if your cats run from him, he will chase them.

if i'm not mistaken i think they are good with kids, especially when you get them when they are puppies so they can grow up with the family.

Huskies have a very high prey drive so you don't want to have cats or any other small animals that may flee. Other than that, they do make great pets but they often prefer to be outside instead of inside.
They also require alot of exercise and can't be let off leash. In addition, make sure you have a securely fenced yard. They are escape artists.

Hi,
Huskies make great pets for households with children. They can be very tolerant of children, but like all other dogs, should be supervised when around young children. Here's more info:

Siberian Husky owner/exhibitor, musher, rescue, breeder for 20+ years.
I was at the pet store looking at one of these and they are very cute and friendly. The guy in the store says they are good with kids and very protective. He said the only problem with these types of dogs is since they are pact or pack dogs (not sure which word he was using) they like to be in control. So you will have to be kind of strict and careful when having them play with the kids. He says they're leaders so you would have to watch them because they might try to be the dominant one in the relationship with the child.
They also get very big. I saw a 2 month old one compared to a 2 month old jack russel and those things are Gigantic. Very cute thouugh.

Huskies are very good dogs to have around kids. They are protective animals and great watch dogs. The cats might be a different story. You can train them to leave cats alone as a pup. I used to own one crossed with a german shepard and it was the perfect choice.
