Why has my Siberian Huskies coat faded and thinned.?

I have two huskies, male and female. The males coat has faded and thinned while the females is full and bright. They both eat the same diet and are outside all the time. They are 8 years old, red and white but unrelated. I live in Reno Nevada.

Have you had him examined by a vet?

That would be the first step, to rule out any sort of health problem, thyroid deficiency, etc.

Red coats in this breed are more prone to fading and sunburn than any other color. The fact that his is affected while your female's is not may have something to do with genetics. If he likes to lie in the sun, and your female is happier in the shade, that can also play a role.

If your vet determines that he is otherwise healthy, you can supplement with fish oil/Omega acid pills. Kelp powder also helps red coats.

Sounds like thyroid or pancreatic insufficiency. Enzymes might be lacking. You can get great enzymes from http://www.nzymes.com And you can get the best food and vitamins etc in the USA from

You can add some omega 3 fatty acids to the food and that should help with the coat…Missing link is a canine supplement that you sprinkle on the food. You might also want to get a full blood panel done on your dog to make sure everything is normal, sometimes dogs with renal failure will have dull, thin coats
